Gadchiroli district is a tribal-dominated district located on the eastern tip of Maharashtra and bordering the states of Chhattisgarh and Telangana. Known all over India as ‘Naxal-v affected,’ this backward district is one of the most educationally and economically backward districts in the state of Maharashtra.
The district, which is the only source of livelihood for agriculture, has been hit hard by the second wave of Covid-19. In the second wave of COVID-19, Gadchiroli district recorded the highest death rate in Maharashtra in April and May this year. In Gadchiroli district, 350 families lost their loved ones in the second wave of Covid-19.
The project covered 60 poor and needy families in Gadchiroli and Dhanora blocks. Families who do not have any effective means of subsistence will be selected, and women in the family are willing to take up various skills training for sustainable livelihood. The project will provide a permanent livelihood to 88 families who lost their livelihood due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and will not have to rely on other people or lenders for their daily needs.
