The SPARSH Gadchiroli NGO, was started on August 09th, 2007 (International Day of World’s Indigenous People). SPARSH has been contributing by protecting human rights, capacity building, mobilization, awareness and intervention through various activities.
SPARSH is an outcome of the initiative by handful of socially awakened youth to uplift the marginalized tribal society. A handful of volunteers, working in the villages of Gadchiroli district started this initiative in the year 2000, much before this non-governmental organization received its legal identity in 2008. The team is now member of the SPARSH Trust, is since then relentlessly working to serve the deserted and depressed sections of the population, especially women and children.
Over the years, SPARSH has established several projects in the areas of upliftment of the Tribal and Dalit community, Women Empowerment (Adolescent and reproductive health, SHG, Microfinance), child protection, Vocational Training, and Watershed development. These projects are operational in the east Vidarbha region of Maharashtra State, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

Demography
Gadchiroli district is situated on the North-Eastern side of Maharashtra State & shares orders with states of Telangana and Chhattisgarh. It has been designated as part of the Red corridor where Naxalism is highly prevalent.
The district is categorized as a tribal and undeveloped district with 76% of the land covered by forests. 89% of the population lives in rural areas with 38.17 % belonging to the tribal community (Census 2011).
- Geographical Area of District 14412 Sq. K.M. with population 10,72,942 (2011).
- The district is divided into six Sub-Divisions Gadchiroli, Chamorshi, Aheri, Etapalli, Desaiganj and Kurkheda. Each sub-division has two talukas.
- The district is distributed into 12 talukas and 12 Panchayat Samitis, 9 Nagar Panchayats, three Municipalities, 457 Gram Panchayats, 1675 villages.
